PSIMENI RAKI CELEBRATIONTaking place in Katapola

Every year in July 26th, on the eve of St. Panteleimon day, the Union of Katapolians of Amorgos in cooperation with the Association of Professionals of Amorgos and under the auspices of the Municipality of Amorgos, organizes the roasted Raki celebration in the picturesque harbour of Katapola. Guests have the opportunity to see up close how this excellent beverage is made. This beverage is still done in the traditional way by the island villagers and its repuitation has spread throughout Greece.
After the baking of the Raki, the celebration continues by welcoming a boat carrying young dancers wearing traditional costumes. They are received by local musicians on the beach and the dancing commences amidst the bystanding crownd who taste the honey-coloured Raki which is offered along with local delicacies such as Pasteli and special pies called Anevates (with cheese and Raki). Soon, the dancers give their place to the guests and the party picks up for good and will last until the early hours of the next day.
